Charisma – Sonia George Charitable Society was set up in 2006, in loving memory of Sonia George. We lost Sonia to complications arising in the last leg of her Bone Cancer Treatment in 2004.

She was a student at St. Xaviers School, Rajniwas Marg, New Delhi and later on joined Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi. She was a very bright student, excellent in both studies and extra curricular activities. A trained Bhartnatyam Dancer, she was endowed with many talents, and was deeply loved by both her teachers and peers. Unfortunately when she was 17 years of age, she was diagnosed with Bone Cancer. For five long years, she fought courageously for her life but unfortunately, she was called to her  eternal rest on August 24, 2004.

Sonia is survived by Mr George M V (Father), Ms. Prabha George (Mother) and Dr. Sarina George (Younger Sister). They, along with a few family members and friends, have set up the Society in honour of her valiant fight against cancer, as it was her last wish to help other cancer patients as much as possible. Sonia strongly believed in sharing others’ sorrows, even while she was fighting for her own life, a battle that lasted for more than 5 years.

It is the endeavour of this society to carry on with her good works and keep her memories alive – a thought that gives us immense strength. She lived only for 22 years and yet, inspired us all to continue the good work she had started.

Each one of us by ourselves might not be able to accomplish much, but by coming together and supporting the treatment of other patients, we hope that this society offers a platform to like-minded people, who wish to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate.

“To live in hearts we leave behind, is not dying.”
